• BJP Attack on Congress: BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan accused Congress of distorting Vande Mataram under Nehru in 1937, claiming stanzas praising Goddess Durga were removed to appease communal sensitivities.

• Kesavan cited a 1937 letter by Nehru to Subhas Chandra Bose, where Nehru reportedly said parts of Vande Mataram could irritate Muslims, calling the omission a “historic blunder” that weakened the song’s national symbolism.

• Kesavan also linked Nehru’s stance to recent remarks by Rahul Gandhi, alleging a “Hindu-virodhi mindset.”

• Congress Response: Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge countered, accusing BJP and RSS of hypocrisy, claiming they have never sung Vande Mataram or Jana Gana Mana in their offices, and highlighted past actions of RSS during the freedom struggle.
